You Should Be Neither Excited Nor Depressed That The U.S. Has A High Infant Mortality Rate

There are lies, damn lies, and statistics.

For a developed country, the United States have a high (yea, verily, very high) infant mortality rate. And according to this article at The Atlantic, a major reason for that is that the United States reports all live preemie births as live births. Apparently many other countries do not record the births of babies born twenty-four or twenty-three weeks into gestation as live births. Which is convenient for them, but I wonder what they tell the parents.

"Hey guys, this one doesn't even count. You get a do-over. This thing over here doesn't, of course, but you do. Go on home."

Of course it is objectively better to say that humans are humans, and I am glad that the United States does so in this situation. But I am under no illusions: we are walking down a path that nations like Austria and Finland already have. And each step down this path we are careering down is another lie about God and man.

In light of this particular lie, and many others, may I commend to you the path of not listening to the haters and the world? Do not be tossed to and fro by the waves. Killers are liars. About everything. They shed innocent blood. Their eyes do not pity children. When I am for peace, they are for war. They say peace, peace, when there is no peace. They say tush, the Lord shall not see, neither shall the God of Jacob regard it. They lie, and are wise and clever in their own eyes, but you know what the world actually is. It is our Father's world, o let us ne’er forget that though the wrong seems oft so strong, God is the ruler yet.

Therefore keep your hand to the plow. Serve the Lord Jesus. Love the Law. Do justice, love mercy, walk humbly with your God. And don't worry about the stories the world, the flesh, and the devil are telling. Disregard damn lies and statistics. This is God's story.
