Top 10 Modern American Mustaches: #6 Walter Cronkite

Walter Cronkite, who died in 2009 at age 92, is a relic of an unfortunate age, when the vast diversity of opinion and presentation of 19th and early 20th century media was funneled into the hands of a very few media channels, before the move into the current age's new diversity.

The man himself became an icon, with the signature closing line of "...and that's the way it is."  With such a hubris-filled tagline, the man needed a dominant mustache. And he did. Neat, elegant, controlled, appropriate to the age (thinner early on, bushier in the '70s).

Growing up in the '80s without a TV, I didn't know who Walter Cronkite was until I watched the fantastic Vietnam War film Full Metal Jacket. "Even Walter Cronkite says the war in unwinnable." He was clearly a man of legendary status. Made more legendary now by his confirmation as MAM #6.
