Southern Stylings

While the look of yesteryear, from 1980s mustaches to 1950s pipes to 1920s bow ties continues to become more and more popular, nowhere but in the South does it ever appear to have some sense of context. If it happens in Portland or Philly, it's a bunch of freaks. If it happens in Montgomery or Austin, why, it just seems to make sense. The Tipsy Texan (a drinks blog) is good for some cool fashion pics, as evidenced by his recent post, Austin Derby Day.

  1. Very true about place. I'm right outside of Philly and recently grew my first mountain man longbeard. Done here, everybody thinks you're making some kind of hipster statement, replete with obsessive Fleet Foxes, Iron & Wine, and Band of Horses listening jags. But down South, it's just a thing gentlemen do.

  2. I have been more and more attracted to the south in past years...perhaps this is why!

  3. I'm fairly certain the South is still the only place you can wear a string tie non-ironically.

  4. But only in the western South. You know, the places Grant invaded earlier in the war.

    Oh, and Wyoming.
