Mark Matthews has died at the age of 111. He was the oldest living Buffalo Soldier, having enlisted in 1910, being involved in the pursuit of Pancho Villa, and rising to the rank of 1st Sergeant during World War Two. The Buffalo Soldiers (the all-black 9th and 10th Cavalry regiments, as well as the 24th and 25th Infantry) have one of the more colorful histories in pre-Great War American military history.
