The Force of Gravity
Jude 13, 24
Augustine was ignorant of gravity's well,
And wondered how on earth antipodean men
Failed to fall from the bottom crescent of the globe.
"Suppose--work with me here--suppose
They have feet on the top of their heads."
How happy a thought! that by walking
Far enough south, you could just fall away from the world.
Meanwhile creation groans, and while I wait,
I plan. When comes the resurrection and New Earth,
My first experiment in heavenly bodies
Will be to take a running start and see
Can I jump off the planet and sail through space
To that next wandering star?
