In your book were written,
every one of them,
the days that were formed for me.

What were you thinking
when between your fingers
you rolled the clod of my birthday?

Did you wonder if the clay
would stick to the wall
if you threw it hard enough?

Or, being omniscient,
did you instead let the angels
play at marbles for while?

And later, adding more clay,
rolling it into a snake,
what made you choose the shape?

What made you add and roll it
longer and longer,
and begin to coil it around?

Do you really have so many
flowering gardens
you needed another flowerpot?

And as you took it simple from the kiln,
what on earth
possessed you to gild it?
