First off, thanks are due Mr Swait (not to mention Mr Swait) for their crystalline clarifications vis á vis the French. Ye have indeed put us all in the picture.
Secondarily, why do we link twice to the British Broadcasting Corporation? Never before has a government-operated institution engendered so much enduring, uneclipsed respect (the U.S. Navy included, remember the 70's? There was a reason why we needed Zumwalt, though some would say his breaks with tradition were too extreme - but I digress).
(It is perhaps a commentary upon the very idea of a weblog that a hefty proportion of this post is parenthetical.)
