First off, thanks are due Mr Swait (not to mention Mr Swait) for their crystalline clarifications vis รก vis the French. Ye have indeed put us all in the picture.
Secondarily, why do we link twice to the British Broadcasting Corporation? Never before has a government-operated institution engendered so much enduring, uneclipsed respect (the U.S. Navy included, remember the 70's? There was a reason why we needed Zumwalt, though some would say his breaks with tradition were too extreme - but I digress).
(It is perhaps a commentary upon the very idea of a weblog that a hefty proportion of this post is parenthetical.)
