High Stakes & the Impossible Game

There is something really there

In that idea of penitence

That's just so gratifying.

Like when you finally finish reassembling the bed

And wipe the sweat from your brow

And wait for your wife to bring the cold water.

I've had that same feeling

When I make up for an early turnover

By playing good D and banging down low.

You know what it is it's that spiritual sweat

That lets you put hands to hip

And rock back happily on your heels.

At least that's the idea, if you understand it,

But then the analogy breaks down,

Because the last thing in the world you'd want to say is

It isn't whether you win or lose it's how you play the game.
